YEAR 5 LEARNING SUMMARY
All pupils will focus on the skills of listening, composing and performing. They will explore and develop their sense of rhythm and ensemble by singing and using tuned and untuned percussion instruments. They will work individually and in groups performing rhythms, tunes and accompaniments. They will listen to and respond to a wide range of music from varying times and cultures. In drama, pupils will learn a range of techniques to explore situations and devise dramas from a range of stimuli. They will act out improvised dramas and existing scripts, creating characters and experimenting with voice, gesture and staging.
YEAR 6 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils will continue to develop skills of Composing, Performing and Listening. They will develop aural skills by listening to, identifying and writing down rhythms. Further develop abilities of reading and writing musical notation and performing with accompaniments. Pupils will explore how music reflects different intentions; make up tunes and rhythms within a given structure; perform by ear and from simple notation; and describe and compare different kinds of music from varying times and cultures. In drama lessons, pupils plan and structure plays that make use of a range of techniques and forms to express their ideas e.g. narration in story theatre. They also discus the themes or issues in the drama and the way they were presented. Pupils also learn lines, collaborate with others and organise simple presentations.
YEAR 7 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils will continue to develop skills of Composing, Performing and Listening. Pupils will learn how construct longer melodies and write them down on the stave. They will develop: aural skills related to musical elements (timbre, texture, dynamics and tempo); further develop abilities of reading and writing musical notation and performing with accompaniments, performing in 2 parts and developing listening and composing for special occasions. Pupils will explore musical techniques; compose and write rhythms & tunes; perform from memory and from written notation on a variety of instruments; and listen to, analyse and compare a wide range of music from varying tunes and cultures.
YEAR 8 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils will continue to develop skills of Composing, Performing and Listening. Pupils will continue to construct melodies and write them down on the stave. Performing will continue in unison and 2 parts and developing listening skills using recorded materials. Composing will also involve learning how to write music in 2 parts. Pupils will explore different musical styles developing their own musical ideas and composing using given structures and stimuli; plan, revise and refine their performances using relevant notation and to listen to, analyse and compare a wide range of music from varying times and cultures.
