YEAR 5 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils learn about and promote tolerance of different religious beliefs by studying the special days that are observed by different religions. They explore the concept and practice of Christian baptism and find meaning in religious stories. Pupils also have the opportunity to investigate the significance and meaning of ‘Light’ in different religions including Divali and Hannukah.
YEAR 6 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils learn about and promote tolerance of different religious beliefs and justify personal opinions by exploring caring for the natural world. Pupils also investigate heroes and leaders looking at the characteristics that are required by these people along with researching famous leaders from throughout history. They will also focus on how people express their faith through a variety of media and explore religious stories, traditions and practice.
YEAR 7 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils learn about taking responsibility and the ceremonies associated with Christianity and Judaism. They also look at the different signs and symbols that are seen in different religions and how these are used to convey meaning. Pupils investigate the roles played by communities and discus why people commit themselves to these groups.
YEAR 8 LEARNING SUMMARY
Pupils learn to identify between fact fact, opinion and belief and discuss different kinds of truth. They investigate and study the key beliefs of Islam and learn to make connections between personal standpoints and the actions people take. The concepts of specials journeys and pilgrimages are discussed to promote respect and understanding of religious practices. This leads pupils to question how personal beliefs can affect people’s lives. Pupils study the effect Jesus had on society and discus the consequences of holding particular beliefs. They consider issues of injustice and hardship within a community.
