Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a computer program designed to encourage and improve reading, measure growth of the individual reader and to provide quality reading for all. It helps teachers to manage and monitor children’s independent reading practice. Your child picks a book at his/her own level and reads it at his/her own pace. When finished, your child takes a short quiz on the computer – passing the quiz is an indication that your child has understood what has been read.
How to access Accelerated Reader quizzes at home?
- Once your child has finished reading a book, they must log into Renaissance Learning via the link below. All pupils must follow this exact link to correctly access the school’s domain.

- Pupils must select ‘I am student’ and enter their Accelerated Reader login details. If they cannot remember their login details, please contact their Author Group teacher.
- Once they have logged in, they must select the orange ‘Accelerated Reader’ icon and their Author Group class. For example: Thompson.
- Pupils must then type the title of their book or quiz number into the search bar.
- Once they have selected the correct book, pupils can then begin their quiz. They must achieve 60% in order to pass the quiz.
What is Home Connect?
Home Connect is a website that links school and home to keep parents informed of their child’s progress in Accelerated Reader. You can access Home Connect via the link below. This link is specific to our school domain.

Simply enter your child’s username and password and you will be able to:
- Review results on Accelerated Reader quizzes taken in school.
- View the number of books read, words read and quizzes passed.
- See a virtual bookshelf showing the books your child has read.
- Sign up (this is optional) to receive an email every time your child takes a quiz to share the results with you instantly.
How to support your child with reading at home?
As with anything, performance improves with practice. We provide lots of opportunities for reading in school, however you can help by encouraging reading at home too.
Logging on to Home Connect with your child at home is a great way to discuss the books they have read and their overall progress in reading. Encourage your child to read with you and/or discuss what they have read. A child may be able to decode and read the words but may not have understood it, so asking questions about the book is important. Reading with your child, no matter what the age, is an important part of developing good reading skills and a lifelong love of reading.
